Performing a 'switch swap'—swapping the suspect switch with a known working switch of the same model—can help you determine whether the issue is with the switch or the location.
Switches differ in functionality. For accurate troubleshooting, it's easiest to switch-swap with the same model, or you might reach the wrong conclusion. For example, if you have an issue with a motion switch, try swapping it with another motion switch in your home.
If you do not have a properly functioning switch in your home that is the same model as the suspect switch, contact Deako support for provide tailored guidance.
1. Remove the switch with an issue (guide available here) This will be our 'suspect switch' and 'suspect location'.
2. Read the back of the suspect switch to identify the model of the suspect switch (examples below of DS0008 and DS0007)
3. Remove a similar switch from a properly working location in the home. These will be the 'known-good' location and 'known-good' switch.
4. Verify the known-good switch is the same model as suspect switch
5. Try the suspect switch in the known-good location. If the problem occurs in this location as well, the switch itself is the likely cause- contact Deako support.
6. If the suspect switch works properly in the known-good location, leave it installed. Take the known-good switch back to the suspect location. Install and test it there- if the issue is still present, further troubleshooting may be needed from an electrician, but Deako support can help verify your troubleshooting steps thus far and suggest next steps to take.
