The Smart Switch (Gen2) gives you flexible control over your lights. It works in all circuit types and, when added to the Deako app, unlocks advanced features like automation and integrations with services such as Amazon Alexa for voice control.
Follow these steps to get your switch up and running.
1. Confirm it’s the right fit
The Smart Switch (Gen2) works in all circuit types (single-pole, 3-way, 4-way).
Important: If your light is controlled by more than one switch, you’ll need to replace all the switches in that circuitwith Smart Switches (Gen2).
Example: If you have a hallway with two switches, one at each end, and you replace only one with a Smart Switch (Gen2), the light may only work when the rocker is in a specific position, or the rocker may do nothing at all when flipped.
2. Install the Smart Switch (Gen2)
Grab the faceplate and pull it off to remove the existing switch’s faceplate.
Pull the blue tab on the backplate to release the old switch (this mechanically and electrically disconnects it), then remove the old switch.
Insert the Smart Switch (Gen2) into the backplate.
Gently push the switch in while pushing the blue tab back in to lock it in place and connect it electrically.
Snap the faceplate back on to complete installation.
That’s it — no tools, breaker shutoff, or electrician required.

3. Multiway Setup and Magic Linking
If you’re installing Smart Switches (Gen2) in a multiway circuit (two or more switches controlling the same light):
After installing multiple Smart Switches (Gen2) in a circuit, the switches may click, blink, or turn the light on and off automatically.
This is Magic Linking, a process where the switches automatically configure themselves to work together.
Wait about 1 minute, until the LED on the switch turns off. After that, the switches should work normally from each location.
Once linked, a switch must be factory reset before it can be linked again or function as an independent switch.

4. Add the Switch to the Deako App
After physical installation, we recommend adding your Smart Switch (Gen2) to the Deako app. This allows you to control it remotely and unlock advanced features.
5. Set Up Smart Features
Once your switch is in the app, take advantage of its smart capabilities to get the most value:
Schedules – Automate lights to follow sunrise/sunset or turn on/off at set times.
Scenes – Trigger multiple lights or actions with a tap or long-press.
Groups – Control multiple lights together in one place.
Timers – Have lights automatically turn off after a set time.
Beacon Modes – Use the LED light bar as a locator or status indicator.
Integrations – Connect to Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings and more for voice control and whole-home automation.
Troubleshooting
The switch doesn’t turn on when installed.
First, confirm the switch is in a compatible location (Smart Switch Gen2 works in all circuit types, but if it’s a multiway, all switches must be replaced).
-
If it still doesn’t power on, you may have a wiring issue in that location. Try installing the switch in another location in your home to test.
The Smart Switch (Gen2) requires a neutral connection to operate.
If the issue follows the switch, contact Deako Support for further assistance or a replacement.
