The Single-Pole Smart Dimmer is designed for use in single-pole circuits, where only one switch controls the light(s). Once installed and added to the Deako app, you’ll be able to control brightness, set schedules, and integrate with voice assistants like Alexa or Google Home.
1. Confirm it’s the right fit
The Single-Pole Smart Dimmer is designed for lights controlled by just one switch.
Popular locations: Bedrooms, dining rooms, kitchens
If your light is controlled by two or more switches (multiway circuit), use a Master Smart Dimmer with one or more Remote Smart Dimmers instead.
2. Install the Smart Dimmer
Grab the faceplate and pull it off to remove the existing switch’s faceplate.
Pull the blue tab on the backplate to release the old switch (this mechanically and electrically disconnects it), then remove the old switch.
Insert the Smart Dimmer into the backplate.
Gently push the switch in while pushing the blue tab back in to lock it in place and connect it electrically.
Snap the faceplate back on to complete installation.
That’s it — no tools, breaker shutoff, or electrician required.

3. Add to the Deako App
After installation, add your Smart Dimmer to the Deako app to unlock remote control, schedules, and more.
Next Steps
Once your Smart Dimmer is in the app, set up smart features to get the most out of it:
-
Schedules – Automate lights to follow sunrise/sunset or turn on/off at set times.
With a Smart Dimmer, you can also schedule brightness levels (e.g., 30% at sunset, 100% at sunrise).
-
Scenes – Trigger multiple lights or actions with a tap or long-press.
Scenes can include custom dim levels along with on/off actions.
-
Groups – Control multiple lights together in one place.
Scenes can include custom dim levels along with on/off actions.
Timers – Have lights automatically turn off after a set time.
Integrations – Connect to Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings and more for voice control and whole-home automation.
4. Troubleshooting
The switch doesn’t turn on when installed (it should flash green near bottom).
Verify the switch is in a single-pole location (only one switch controls the light).
If confirmed, the most likely cause is a wiring issue in that location.
-
Try installing the switch in another single-pole location to test.
The Smart Dimmer requires a neutral connection, and the line and load conductors must be matched to the correct ports on the backplate.
If the issue follows the switch, contact Deako Support for further assistance or a replacement.
The lights behave oddly at different dim levels.
If the light works fine at 100% brightness but flickers when dimmed, check the bulb as it may not be dimmable. Non-dimmable bulbs often flicker when paired with a dimmer.
If the light dims smoothly but shuts off at lower levels, the bulb may not support dimming that low. Different lights have different dimming ranges. You can fix this by adjusting the low-end trim setting in the Deako app — see How to Adjust Dimmer Trim Settings.
The lights flicker randomly or intermittently.
This can sometimes happen if other devices are on the same circuit. If it persists, contact Deako Support for help.
