Multiway Upgrade Rule
If a light is controlled by two or more wall switches, every switch in the circuit must be a Gen2 Smart Switch model DS2023.
-
Mixing a Gen2 Smart Switch with standard rocker can impair or disable all switches on the circuit.
-
Mixing a Gen2 with Gen 1 Smart Switch (DS2005) can impair or disable all switches on the circuit.
Magic Link One Circuit at a Time
To prevent cross-linking, complete Magic Linking one circuit at a time. Linking devices on multiple circuits simultaneously can cause switches from different circuits to pair incorrectly, leading to improper behavior.
If cross-linking occurs, perform a factory reset on the affected devices and relink them individually to the correct circuit.
Simple Installation – Magic Linking
-
Identify every switch that operates the light (leave them installed for now).
-
Remove all of the switches that operate the light
- Install DS2023 Smart Switch in each switch position
- Wait for the the beacon status light to turn off on all switches- this may take a few minutes
- Test to make sure each switch properly controls the light
Advanced Installation – Magic Linking
(if simple installation is not successful, try advanced installation)
-
Identify every switch that operates the light (leave them installed for now).
-
Replace the first switch with a DS2023 Smart Switch.
-
The beacon LED near the bottom of the switch will flash green and may briefly show purple or white; the fixture may come on and go off.
-
Wait until the LED turns off and remains off for a few seconds
-
-
Replace the next switch.
-
Installing a new switch may restart Magic Linking on the others—LEDs will flash white on all the installed Smart Switches switches while they re-sync. This is normal.
-
Wait until the beacon LEDs on all Smart Switches are off.
-
-
Repeat Step 3 until every switch in the circuit has been upgraded.
-
Test each switch to confirm the light responds correctly.
