This guide walks through setting up Deako devices in Control4 using the Deako Connect driver by Chowmain, from getting your switches on the network to discovering them in Composer Pro.
Prerequisites
- Deako App Setup: Switches must be installed and added to the Deako app. Use the app to connect them to your Wi-Fi network before proceeding.
- Network: Control4 controller must be connected to the same local network as your Deako devices.
- Composer Pro: Ensure you are logged into the project.
About the Driver
We recommend the Chowmain Deako Connect driver for all installations. It supports Gen 2 devices as a bridge via SDDP discovery and Gen 1 devices via manual IP binding.
| Device Type | Control4 Integration |
|---|---|
| Deako Smart Dimmers | Imported as native Control4 dimmers. |
| Deako Smart Switches | Imported as native Control4 on/off lights. |
Note: The Chowmain driver is currently undergoing Control4 certification. Download it manually from the link at the bottom of this page to add it to Composer Pro.
Setup Steps
-
Add Deako Switches to the Network
Before opening Composer Pro, add all Deako switches to the Deako app and ensure they are successfully connected to your Wi-Fi network. -
Add the Drivers to Your Project
Download the Chowmain driver and manually add the files to your Composer Pro driver folder. -
Discover Devices
In Composer Pro, navigate to the Discovered tab in System Design. Deako devices on the network will appear here via SDDP. Add a device to the project to install the driver and set it as the bridge in one step. -
Run Auto Setup
Select the Deako Connect driver from the System Design tree, navigate to Actions, and click Auto Setup to discover and add all Deako devices.
Tip: Auto Setup may take 1-2 attempts to discover all loads. If some devices are missing, simply run the action again.
Troubleshooting
Issue: Devices not appearing in Discovered tab
Solution: Confirm Deako devices are powered on, added to the Deako app, and connected to the same network (and VLAN) as the Control4 controller.
Issue: Auto Setup doesn't find all devices
Solution: Run Auto Setup again. It typically takes 1-2 attempts to discover all loads on the network.
Issue: Load control not responding
Solution: Check Connections > Network in Composer Pro to verify the device shows as online. Confirm the bridge device is properly bound and the network connection is stable.
