The Simple Motion Switch is a great option for spaces like pantries, laundry rooms, bathrooms, and garages. It turns lights on automatically when it senses motion and turns them off after a period of inactivity.
Follow these steps to get your switch up and running.
1. Confirm it’s the right fit
The Simple Motion Switch is a single-pole switch. This means it is designed specifically for lights controlled by a single switch.
Popular locations: Pantry, laundry room, bathroom, garage
Not a good fit: Hallways or stairwells with multiple switches controlling the same light (sometimes called 3-way or 4-way circuits)
If your light is controlled by just 1 switch, the Motion Switch will work correctly.
If your light is controlled by two or more switches, the Motion Switch will not work correctly.
2. Install the Motion Switch
Grab the faceplate and pull it off to remove the existing switch’s faceplate.
Pull the blue tab on the backplate to release the old switch (this mechanically and electrically disconnects it), then remove the old switch.
Insert the Motion Switch into the backplate.
Gently push the Motion Switch in while pushing the blue tab back in to lock the switch in place and connect it electrically.
That’s it — no tools, breaker shutoff, or electrician required.

3. Wait for startup
Once installed, the switch will begin its startup process.
The small LED on the front will blink steadily for about one minute as it boots up.
4. Test motion activation
After about a minute, the switch is ready to use.
The LED will come on when motion is detected, and the switch will turn on the light.
5. Manual control
Press the button on the switch to manually turn the light on or off.
Note:
If you turn the light off manually, it will not turn the fixture back on automatically for 5 minutes. This prevents the annoyance of the light coming back on immediately after you turned it off.
During this 5-minute hold period, the small LED on the switch will still light up when it senses motion, but the connected light fixture will remain off.
6. Adjusting settings
You can adjust the auto-off time to be shorter or longer
You can also change the behavior from auto on/auto off to manual on/auto off.
Both of these adjustments are detailed here:
Troubleshooting
My Motion Switch won’t turn on (seems DOA).
Make sure it’s installed in a single-pole location (only one switch controls the light).
If confirmed: the issue may be either a defective switch or a wiring problem (the Motion Switch requires a neutral wire, while standard rocker switches do not).
Try moving the switch to another single-pole location in your home to test.
In this case, we’d be happy to send you a replacement switch to verify whether the issue is with the device itself. Contact Deako Support for assistance.
My Motion Switch worked at first, then stopped.
Confirm it’s installed in a single-pole location.
The most likely issue is a wiring mismatch (for example, the hot/com wire connected to the load port and the load wire connected to the hot/com port).
In this case, we’d be happy to send you a replacement switch to verify whether the issue is with the device itself. Contact Deako Support for assistance.
The LED flashes, but the light doesn’t turn on.
This is normal if you manually turned the switch off. After being turned off manually, the switch will wait 5 minutes before automatically turning the fixture back on.
During this time, the LED will still flash when motion is detected, but the light itself will remain off until the hold period ends.
