This article provides some info on the settings for your Simple Motion Sensor. You can change the settings by taking off the front cover and adjust the sliders.
The Motion Sensor has 3 settings.
Time
After not detecting any motion for a set amount of time, the switch will automatically turn the light off
Options:
- Test - Turns the light off after approx. 30 seconds of no motion detected
-
5 - Turns the light off after 5 minutes of no motion detected
-
20 - Turns the light off after 20 minutes of no motion detected
Mode
Mode settings determines how the switch controls the light
Options:
-
Occupancy - the switch turns the light on when it detects motion, then turns it off after not detecting any motion for 5 or 10 minutes
-
Vacancy - the switch only turns the light off after not detecting any motion for 5 or 20 minutes
Tip: If you use the main button to turn off the motion sensor, there's a 5 minute cool-down period where motion won't turn the light on again. The 5 minutes reset if motion is detected before it’s ended.
That way, if you turn your light off, the motion of you leaving the room doesn’t turn it back on again!
Range
Range sets how sensitive the sensor is to movement
Options:
-
Lo - Low sensitivity
-
Hi - High sensitivity (only recommended for large rooms)

1. Motion Sensor turning on when no one is in the room
In a small number of homes (about 0.3%), the Motion Sensor may be triggered to turn on by electrical noise in the wires from other appliances. If your Motion Sensor is turning on when no one is in the room, let us know at support@deako.com and we can replace it for you!
2. Check how many switches control the light
Motion Sensors are designed to be the only switch controlling a light. If they’re being used in a multi-way circuit where more than one switch controls the same light, they won’t function properly.
3. Check the Motion Sensor settings
Make sure the settings on your Motion Sensor are correct for how you’d like the switch to act. Here are some general tips for settings:
Occupancy Mode: If the light is turned off manually with the main button, there’s a 5 minute cool-down period where motion won’t turn on the light. This time period resets if any motion is detected before 5 minutes has elapsed.
That way, if you turn your light off, the motion of you leaving the room doesn’t turn it back on again!
Vacancy Mode: In this mode, the light needs to be turned on manually with the main button. The Motion Sensor will only automatically turn off after the time delay expires.
Range: In many cases, the High Range setting isn’t necessary unless the Motion Sensor is being used in a large room.
It can help to try changing the settings on your motion sensor.
4. Recalibrate the Motion Sensor
You can recalibrate your Motion Sensor via the following steps:
- Remove the Motion Sensor from the Backplate
- Press the main button 10 times at a normal pace, and check that the LED isn’t lighting up
- Insert the Motion Sensor back into the Backplate
- After about 10-15 seconds the LED will begin flashing.
- After about 1 minute, the LED will stop flashing, and the Motion Sensor will be recalibrated
5. Check the main button on the Motion Sensor
Are you able to use the main button to manually turn the light on and off?
If the main button isn’t working, this may indicate possible wiring issues. Click here for more information about diagnosing wiring issues.
