Using a Simple Ceiling Fan Controller with a fan/light combination fixture can lead to different outcomes depending on how the fan and light are wired, and whether the components are alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC). Here’s what to expect:
Recommended Use
Deako’s Simple Ceiling Fan Controller is intended for use with AC ceiling fans where the fan and light functions are wired to separate switches. This switch should be installed in the fan switch location only, not in the light switch. To see full specifications of the switch, please see our Simple Ceiling Fan Controller cutsheet.
Possible Outcomes When Used with a Fan/Light Combo
-
Basic On/Off Function Only
The switch may act as a standard on/off control without adjusting fan speed or light brightness.
-
Combined Dimming and Speed Control
The switch may attempt to adjust both fan speed and light brightness at the same time, which is not ideal or guaranteed to work properly.
-
Partial Control
The switch may adjust only the fan speed or only the light brightness, not both.
-
Premature Switch Failure
While unlikely, the switch may fail early if used in an incompatible setup.
-
Fan or Light Failure
The fan motor or light (especially DC components) may malfunction or stop working altogether.
Important Note
DC fans are commonly not compatible with Simple Ceiling Fan Controllers and may not function properly, or at all.
