A Smart Switch and Single Pole Smart Dimmer can be used to diagnose wiring issues that prevent some switches from working properly.
Diagnosing Wiring Issues in a Single Pole Locations
- Verify rocker switch controls the lights properly
- Install Smart Switch
- If it powers on as evident by a green LED flash behind the config button, neutral is present
If it does not power on, neutral is not connected.
After resolving the no neutral fault, be sure to test with the Single Pole Smart Dimmer to confirm polarity is correct
- Install Single Pole Smart Dimmer
- If it powers on as evident by a green LED flash behind the config button polarity is correct and neutral is connected
- If it does not power on but the Smart Switch did, then the backplate has wiring fault of line/load reversed. This means the line wire is plugged into the load port and the load wire is plugged into the line port, they need to be switched.
Diagnosing Wiring Issues in a Multiway Locations
- Verify rocker switches control the lights properly
- Remove rocker switch from one location only. Rocker switches must be installed in other locations when conducting this test.
- Install Smart Switch
- If it powers on as evident by a green LED flash behind the config button, neutral is present
- If it does not power on, then the backplate has wiring fault of neutral wire is not connected
- Re-install rocker switch, then repeat with other locations
